Case Studies:

Jason Harrison:

According to veteran Microsoft Small Business Specialist Jason Harrison, accounting professionals and partners who aren’t implementing Microsoft Office Accounting are leaving very lucrative opportunities untouched, depriving these professionals of more billings and deeper client relationships. Are you one of them? If so, he says, consider this: Office Accounting has brought a level of integration and power to the small business financial management market that had not existed before. This sophistication has opened up myriad opportunities for the technology consulting firm, in a market that will continue to be a growth area for as long as the spirit of the entrepreneur lives.

Robert Lindley:

Small Business Specialist Robert Lindley sees lots of opportunities for integration and partnering using Office Accounting. He prefers to partner with a local Microsoft Partner Accounting Network (MPAN) member when consulting clients on Office Accounting. They provide the accounting services, and Lindley’s team supports the network and product integration. Lindley’s firm has already taken advantage of some of the modifications possible, like building ad hoc reports and customizing time entries to better meet its needs. Probably 90% of his company’s installations involve Small Business Server, which open up Office Accounting possibilities even more. “This is a great product, and it provides an excellent opportunity for growth in our services businesses,” Lindley says.

Thomas Meehan:

Small Business Specialist Thomas Meehan is a big cheerleader for Office Accounting, and he’s implemented it well, at several sites. By integrating Small Business Server with SharePoint services, one of Meehan’s clients, a company that provides solar power for wineries, can set up access to the project server. With another client, a management company for home builders, he set up jobs as accounts. A lot of Meehan’s clients export to Excel and take advantage of Excel Pivot Tables. Meehan has actually moved a contractor over from QuickBooks Enterprise. And salespeople have benefitted from remote access. Partnering makes sense with this powerful combination of tools, Meehan says.

Alan Shrater:

Small Business Specialist Alan Shrater has been waiting for the type of integration Office Accounting offers for 20 years. “Using Office Accounting as a foundation, we’re no longer talking about a basic small business accounting system,” Shrater says. “We’re talking about a small business information system.” He can get to his clients’ data from Excel, from Word, from Access, even from Microsoft Query. He can also use Sharepoint as a front end to his accounting data, to build dashboards. He can use SQL reporting services if he wants to use strong tools. Because of this powerful integration, Shrater has just one question for partners wondering if they should support Office Accounting: What are you waiting for?

Mark Smith:

Small Business Specialist Mark Smith saw Office Accounting’s potential from the start. He saw a multi-role and multi-user product that used open database architecture, based on SQL server. He could see that down the road, he wouldn’t be locked into someone’s proprietary file format. He saw the value of the data mining made possible and Office Accounting’s role in total business process integration. So he continued doing installations. He currently has 15 clients on Office Accounting, two integrated with Point of Sale. And Mark Smith sees those opportunities increasing as he moves clients into new, integrated systems.
